What you need to know

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is pushing forward a massive dredging project at Port Everglades. Under current plans, this intensive construction project would last five to six years and disturb sediment that would smother the vibrant coral reef sharing its waters.

What we're asking the Army Corps of Engineers

We have reviewed the current environmental approach and have identified crucial errors and gaps that could prove devastating to the reef if left unaddressed. Please write to your representatives and advocate for a halt to project advancement until: ‎

1

The Corps commits to a dredging methodology, and fully evaluates the impacts on local species and habitats.

2

The Corps uses the best available science to finalize robust project plans that effectively limit harm to species and habitat, before construction begins.

3

The Corps demonstrates that the mitigation of over a million corals is possible.

4

The Corps has committed to specific and enforceable measures to protect corals, queen conch, and other vulnerable Endangered Species Act-listed species in the project area.

Why your voice matters

This project should be shaped by and serve the local communities most impacted. Now is the time to make sure your voice is heard. Direct input from constituents and people like you greatly influences our elected leaders. Your message showcases the broad support for responsible construction that prioritizes environmental safety.

Send a personalized email today to urge Congress to stop this dredging project until proper environmental precautions are in place.

What happens next

The Corps’ Biological Assessment is currently being reviewed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It is critical that we can highlight the widespread support for environmental protection during this process. With one click, your email will be sent to the U.S. Senator and House Representative who represents YOU. They will be able to reply directly if they choose.
